FAQ
Is Rhythm and YOU! Appropriate for both male and female students?
YES!! The Rhythm and You! program is gender neutral! If your child is between 2 and 6 years old, Rhythm and YOU! is a perfect addition to their early education and social experience!
Are students in Rhythm and YOU! assigned by age?
Yes. Rhythm and YOU! is divided into two age-appropriate programs. Ages 2 - 3.5 years old are in one program, and ages 4 - 6 are in another program. Material is selected and presented to serve students of both age ranges best.
What sets Rhythm and You! apart from exercises already incorporated into the children's daily activities?
Rhythm and YOU! has a strong emphasis on musicality, creative movement, self-expression, improvisation, and guided prompts. Students will have use of instruments, interactive exercises, and games that focus on improving physical coordination, flexibility, balance, musicality, rhythm, and overall body awareness. Our program promotes a supportive and encouraging environment where students can build confidence, explore choreographic elements (shapes, turns, directions), develop spatial relationships (near, far), understanding levels of height and distance, and creating their own style of movement in response to stimuli.
How does improvisation benefit my child?
Focusing on elements of improvisation allows children to express themselves both emotionally and creatively. They gain a better understanding of who they are and how they respond to different situations and stimuli, which sets them on a strong path to self-discovery.
What type of prompts and stimuli are offered in Rhythm and YOU?
Music is used as a primary source of listening and responding in the Rhythm and YOU program. Cues in lyrics, matching the tone of music being played, and identifying emotions we feel while listening to music are all important sources of learning for children. In addition, we utilize fun activities like matching movement to images, and pretend play to keep the program fun and exciting!
What are the overall benefits from participating in Rhythm and YOU?
Children learn from repetition! With music and creative movement, they are provided the space to repeat basic skills without getting bored! Counting, coordination, cooperation, listening, waiting for their turn, fundamental musicality, movement can communicate actions and ideas, and the development of body control. All of these concepts and more are reinforced in the Rhythm and YOU program!
How long is the program?
Enrollment for Rhythm and YOU! is by semester. Each tuition payment includes three months of classes that run once per week for 45 minutes. Or the option to run a one-week "intensive" is available by request! The weekly program offers one 45-minute class per day, every day of the chosen week. This option is popular with schools that like to incorporate theme weeks in their curriculum!
